Excursion Program
• Departure to Toxotes village from xanthi with bus.
• Visiting Nestos river delta and light walking towards the river on a very beautifull stone way.
Nestos is the river of life for this area. It comes from the center of Boulgaria running through high mountains and 2 hydroelectric dams, to reach the village of Stavroupolis. Here it starts its greatest adventure. Nestos enters its gorge for 22km and runs through a virgin riverside forest to end up in the area of Toxotes and the Nestos delta, where the river finally meets its final destination, the Thracian sea.
• Then we will take the train and we will go through the beautiful forest of nestos delta with direction to Stavroupoli. We will visit there the Macedonian Tomb of Komnimon and then we will go to the Culture Museum of Stavroupolis.
• After that we will get the bus and will go to Abdira. We will visit the archeological museum there and then we will depart for Porto Lagos. There we will visit the Information Center for Bistonida Lake and the old graphical church of Saint Nikolas which is build on a small island inside the lake.
